Sportfishing in Cancun

Cancun Sportfishing and Flyfishing

The run to the fishing grounds is about an hour, some 15-20 miles offshore, we fish the famous Contoy bank 10 miles north of Isla Mujeres and occasionally Arrowsmith bank  22 miles east of Cancun.

We fish a spread of 4 lines (20 pound test) and two teasers, trolling dead ballyhoo on light mono for sailfish, dolphin, tuna, we'll also have  (horse ballyhoo) in case a blue shows up on the teasers.  In the winter the grouper and snapper fishing is pretty good with plenty of Gag's and Blacks in the 20-30 pound range.

In the season we will flyfish for sails, it is not uncommon to raise 20 fish to the teasers and get at least a dozen shots on the fly, we use mostly 12 weight outfits with tandem hook fly's fished on 20 pound tippet. ( we are experienced in teasing the fish within casting range )

The Seasons:
For sailfish, marlin, tuna, dolphin - January  thru August (with peak months being February thru May ).
In the season you can expect 15 to 20 bites a day on sailfish. The rest of the year there is Wahoo, Tuna, Kingfish, Amberjack and excellent bottom fishing for Grouper and Snapper.

Unlike most boats, we encourage angler participation, be it teasing a sail to a fly, pitch baiting a teaser fish, or jigging a big grouper off the bottom. We most definitely want you to be involved in catching your fish. You can participate as much as you desire!

The Fishing Hours
A Full Day is at least 10 hours,  Contrary to other boats, we are not limited by how many hours we fish, or how far we go. For us it is not a business, it is a way of life, and the difference is...we like to fish.

It is customary to leave a tip to the mate at about 10% - 15%.
